I find it funny those laws target the humiliation of children. Humiliation is a GOOD tool. When I would get spanked in public, the adults accompanying my parents would look at me -- some even offering words like "see, you got yourself spanked, didn't you" -- in a very disapproving way. Knowing that what you did wrong is socially unacceptable, deridable, and humiliating is a BIG part of learning not to do it again.
Skunk, add the USA to the list. There have been cases of parents getting arrested for spanking their kids in public -- some helpful store clerk was kind enough to call in the authorities.
Ever seen a young teen threaten to call the cops on their parents and report abuse? I have. Evil kids, some of them. If my kid were to do that, then THAT would be the ONE time I'd ball up my fist and give them a swollen lip. Hey, if they're gonna report me, I may as well get to do the act.
Seriously, we're coddling, people. I certainly don't advocate child abuse, but c'mon -- if we don't prepare kids for reality AND properly socialize them, we will just have more of the all-too-common irresponsible, mean, viscious little s**ts running around. I know you see them. Kids stealing, kids outright beating other kids, kids treating service industry workers like garbage, kids who think their parents money and arrogant attitudes transfers to them.
What we're missing here in this discussion as to how we can best pat the little bastards on the head and make them feel all cozy-wozy is the fact that THEIR MORALITY IS DEGRADING OVER TIME.
