True!
Hitting a child mostly causes emotional wounds when it happens unexplained and/or suddenly. Same can go for emotional punishment.
Although I basically do not advocate spanking I am convinced that if you don't explain your action and ground your kid for a month you do more damage than if you discuss his misbehavior and slap him/her.
[/QUOTE]But, to be honest, I always knew I was doing some thing wrong when I got my face slapped -- usually backtalking and smart-mouthing (I know, hard to believe, but 'tis true). My surprise came not from the fact I was doing something wrong, but from the fact I got slapped for it. I remember "but what did I do wrong?" being a very rare question for me. Let us not forget to give the little hellions their due credit for understanding and craftiness.
