Look, the "reserves" are just that -- RESERVES!!!!! They have no business using them as a global occupational army. The whole notion of "reserves" is that they will be those soldiers we call up IN TIMES OF DEFENSE NEEDS. Iraq is NOT a defense need -- at all. Even if Saddam had WMD, the US borders were not threatened. Iraq is... well, whatever it is, and we can argue that (and we do), it is not a place to send our "last ditch" "reserve" troops.
What's worse, the Reserves are seen recruitment drop off. Hell, if they're going to use you as regular army, then you know you better just go ahead and sign up for regular army. In the future, our youths will not TRUST the Reserves system, and will not enlist in the Reserves. They'll either go into the forces or to college, and we will see an end to the many years of wonderful use that our young folks made of the Reserve system.
