Todays level of soldier is based off of todays society. In the 80s it was nothing to do a 45 day field exercise, be back for a couple weeks and go somewhere else for another 40-50 days, and that was the Cold War Army. Today if we are gone more than 30 we get seperation pay, and all sorts of other benefits that were unheard of back then.
And it was better back in the old days because ... ?

Amazing how, while humans strive to make life better, there are always grumpy people complaining that life was better before ... when it was harder. Why ? What is better in a harsher life ? Is it that you think it makes us stronger ? Better go back to stone age then. [/QB][/QUOTE]Because; You trained hard, and you had a end statement.
In 1985 I spent 263 days training, and came back from NTC victorious.

Today; You only stop training long enough to deploy.
2002 I spent 312 days either training or deployed, and have 2 new ribbons.

Next year at the current anticipation level, we will have less than 50 days home. The rest will be training then deployment.

And this makes today better because...?
