There's nothing wrong with just four characters in a party, but it may not fit everyone's playing style. In addition, depending upon your style, it limits the choices of what you can be. Suppose you decide that you really need a thief, yet you don't want to play one. Perhaps you decide you really need two front-line tanks, but you're playing a sorceror and you don't want Viconia up there with her low hit points. You could make more than one character, as per a multiplayer game, but it limits some of the inter-party dialogues. [/QUOTE]Aye, that is true... I admit I used an Assassin when playing this way (it seemed to fit, as a Child of Bhaal...). Well, then what about this? A lot of quests have NPCs that are attached to them; in the first level you have Yoshimo, and then you have Keldorn in the sewers, Nalia in the castle, Aerie in the tent, Anomen in the Copper Coronet, Valygar in the Hills/Sphere... Jan and you could have these members 'join' your party as extra muscle during said quests and then drop them afterwards. Once you have your party established you could carry on into Chapter 4 with the 'core four' and carry on; possibly gaining Imoen on the way.

Perhaps one change you COULD condone is changing Imoen's alignment to evilly-inclined; after all, you could argue, if she's your childhood friend and she's stuck by you this far, she must be a kindred soul, surely...?

And then you get to ToB and things get a lot easier.
