In the film A Hard Days Night, a journalist asks Ringo if he's a "mod or a rocker?" His droll response: "a mocker."
Mods were a post-WWII British working-class youth subculture that
arose thanks to the increased economic opportunities (white-collar
office work) for young people after the war.
This subculture has been loosely characterized by a competitive,
snobbish emulation of the middle class through elements of style and
consumption (elegant suits, narrow trousers, and pointed shoes, use
of motor scooters, etc.) Musically, mods were inspired by r&b and
early soul.
Rockers, another subculture, are more or less equivalent to US
biker groups: motor-bikes, black leather and studs. Musically,
rockers favored classic rock 'n' roll.
Pretty goofy thread, I know. But after the Pakistan & India thread I made yesterday, I need to post something silly and useless.
