I Do not believe that the "draft" is necessary in the current situation that the USA is in. So I voted Nay, Should it ever become necessary to defend the US homeland against a direct threat Im pretty sure there would be more volunteers than could be processed.
In the beginning when the country was fighting for existance and communicatio and education was so poor, the Draft was necessary.
Being raised old school (ie male chauvenist pig) I usualy would say women as the mothers of our children should be exempt..however, women fought their own war for equal rights so lets by god git it to them, they earned it. What I do detest is in the US Military women were given and are still given preferential treatment and so in the field rarely earn the respect they deserve. Women are held to lower physical standards for the same jobs that men are doing, this is wrong, and women are held to lower acedemic standards as well when testing for the same positions as men, all in the name of meeting some arbitrary quota. I will say this is not just true for women in the US military though, there are these same type of preferences given for various racial groups as well.
I long for the day when the US gets over quota's and preferential treatments that allow unqualified or less qualified people have positions that truely qualified people a bumped out of.
