Having never had the kinds of experiences you had, I do not really feel competent to offer any suggestions on what you can do. But I think you could perhaps try this. Try doing and thinking good things. The random act of kindness. Or thinking of how you can help others or bring happiness to others. Positive thoughts and fear can't and don't go together.
Perhaps you can go a step further and think of those spirits as the object of your compassion, not your fear. If ghosts really exist, they can't be happy because the very fact that they haven't 'passed on' already implies that they're clinging onto something and unwilling to let go, that they feel they've got 'unfinished business'.
