Ooooohh, I like that one and I've never heard it before. Thanks! OK, here's another one I discovered that you may not have seen - I posted it here over a year ago but haven't seen it mentioned anywhere since.

Say you've got a fighter/thief or a cleric thief, basically someone that can wear heavier armor but can't use his thief abilities while doing so. Carry a spare suit of plate mail, for example, with you and hide in shadows. Now get behind someone that you want to backstab, pause the game, go to your inventory screen and put the plate on. Now return to the game and strike! You'll still get the backstab multiplier, yet you'll be in heavy armor for the rest of the battle!

ADDENDUM: I forgot to mention that combat must not have actually started for this to work. In addition, some NPCs will initiate dialog with you when you're near and then turn red, even though you're still hidden, and my little trick won't work in this situation. So make sure you quicksave each time you try this out!
