I like them. Have finished the exile series and am reading Legacy at the moment. Icewind Dale will possibly be next or the one after the next book.
They are a window into Drizzt's mind, something we don't get as much of in the 'story' because he's usually swinging those scimitars about not philosophizing to his buddies the dwarves and such.
