I guess the Ford Escort and the Honda Civic are better vehicles than BMWs and Lexus, since there are so many more of them on the road.
There are many games that run on Linux, and most of the new games are being written for it. There's a ton of stuff on the Mac. but, M$ has all of you believing that Windoze is the only way to go, and like lemmings, you follow! Like I said earlier, gates deserves all the money you give him.
BTW, it seems that Dreamworks, makers of movies like Shrek (which was completely made on Linux boxes), disagrees with most of you. Thev're switched EVERYTHING to Linux.
And Macs to run the administration end.

Artist types aren't a good point of reference IMO... they do LOTS of weird stuff

.
Linux and Apple are both still in the game, but to play on even footing with Billy is tough with their business models.
Linux will never be mainstream as long as it retains the aura of "geek toy". It needs the heavies to jump in, apply the OS to a commercial product, and stand behind it. Not too many of us are comfortable rebuilding the OS to add support for a new device... sad but true.
Apple shot themselves in the foot so many times it's a wonder they're still in business... but now they've got some VERY cool products, their OS is in catch up mode but it's making progress, and lots of people are looking for an alternative to Wintel. Apple is still pretty much the only game in town. Add to that the fact that the internet has to some extent mitigated the division between Apples and Wintel platforms (both run internet apps just fine) and the Apple I think might soon be making inroads into the mainstream. That's good for us ALL... even those of us who are die hard Microserfs.
