Sometimes, when I experience difficulty with any program, such as Explorer, I will CTRL+ALT+DEL to see what items are currently running. Sometimes, an item will say..."Not responding", and I shut it out. If that does not apply nor help, then I start turning items off that I know are not Windows Vital (Meaning the PC shuts down if you stop its operation). It always works for me, though I do not know your particular situation as to what caused it. Let me know if nothing I said helped.
I can ask the help desk here at work before they go home tonight.
