There are a couple of applicable saying to bands.
Q.How do you make an enemy?
A. Find a friend and go into business with them.
and the second one:
Bands are like marriage without the sex.
Actually there's some truth in the second statement. There is a level of commitment, necessity to resolve conflict, create an accepting, expressive environment, mutual respect, and ego management that is not dissimilar to those involved in romantic relationship. Creating with another person can be a vulnerable and intimate situation. There is a particular energy that occurs when members of the opposite sex create together. (Who aren't in a relationship with each other)
Most of the laws to having a sucessful relationship apply.
Thus it can be a minefield, but it can also be extremely rewarding. I got to the point where I can make a record by myself. Yet I prefer, totally prefer to be working with another mind. Embracing their ideas, feeding off their enthusiasm or different perspective. Reaching a conclusion about the music simultaneously. It's wonderful.
So I wish you all the best with it bro. Yes, there will be pitfalls, but if you remember the good things you like about the musicians your working with, rather than focussing on the annoying aspects, it'll go a lot smoother.
Anyhow I love it.
