Mistral,
Last year I got my degree after 4 years of evening study (well, evening, weekend, holiday and lunchtime study), and I can honestly say that it was a very positive experience.

I do know though, that I would not be able to study anything *just* for the reason that it could earn me more money - I wouldn't be able to put in the time and effort required unless I really loved the subject.

Unfortunately in archaeology, the pay and contract terms are absolutely appalling - so has it been worth it in financial terms for me? Not a jot, I can get paid more by doing a job in an office that I'm not qualified for - isn't that daft?

But it HAS been worth it for the experience of doing it and knowing I *can* do it along with all the other pressures of working full time etc., now I just have to get that PHD sorted out...
