AzRaeL, it is my personal theory, based on MUCH research, that shaking the 'tini cools it more thoroughly, as well as taking the "bite" out of the gin, making the drink smoother. As for vermouth, I am not of the "extra-dry" school (you know, " hold the shaker close to your mouth and whisper, "vermouth), for I believe that there should be enough to balance the drink. I love Robert Benchley's remark that there should be enough vermouth to make the drink lose "that ghastly
