Hi, Velkyn. Over here, we call it the "contingency fee." Tort, that is , personal-injury lawyers, use it to get huge fees out of their victims. Say, some person wants to sue somebody for a huge amount of money, but can't afford to retain an attorney to sue them. Under a contingency-fee arrangement, a lawyer would agree to take the case, but instead of a retainer and fees, he gets a stated potion of any award, usually half to two-thirds. This often results in huge fees for the attorney. They say it lets them take cases for people that can't afford it. Critics say that it results in meritless lawsuits that are filed just to get the defendant to buy the suers off, and raises the prices of everything. My personal opinion? Two words. "Greedy Lawyers."
