Here's what I did the last time I was down there.
Kelsey (the add-on sorcerer) had some pretty high levels, so I summoned up 5 Mordainken's Swords at a time. None of my characters fought the illithid. Best of all, Mordaiken's Swords are resistant to confusion, paralysis, domination, magic in general, and phyisical attacks in general. I highly reccomend that method.
