Hello,
when I played BG1/TOSC, it was missles, maybe a spell or two, missles, then maybe melee;
when I played BG2, it was spells (maybe something from Firetooth) and melee, spells and melee, melee, melee;
when I played BG2/TOB, it was spells then melee.
Summoning critters is a good tactic (it's how I beat Sarevok without a scratch to my party), but my higher level warriors were just so effective (dual powerful weapons, special abilities) that summoning anything less than a pit fiend, deva, or palantar was just casuing a delay for the grinding machine to get into action.
Nothing like getting the party juiced-up on the most powerful protection and augmentation spells, and then unleashing them!!!!!!!!!
