All right, this is chapter one, part one. (I'll be turning up in the next half) Enjoy! Larry_OHF, Avatar, if you don't like the way I've portrayed you, tell me! DragonMage, if you think you want to change something (we're doing this together, right?), do say...
Avatar was sitting sadly in the corner of the cafe. It was full, with the noisy patrons laughing, swapping tales and telling jokes. The proprietor Cloudbringer and the two waitresses bustled back and forth in an effort to serve everyone. Only Avatar was quiet and lonely, thinking on what had just happened to him. The medium-sized young elf smoothed down his emerald and gold clothes, exposing the elven chain underneath. The low lighting glinted off coalblack hair and made his hazelnut brown eyes seem dark, like a bottomless pool. He fingered the stain on his shoulder, courtesy of an apple thrown at him by jeering children.
That is what we get for following our Goddess - laughter. Why? The other gods are treated with respect, however Aerie gets laughed at and demeaned regularly. We, her loyal followers, are ridiculed and chased. There must be some way to demand our equality, to be respected! Avatar gasped as an idea struck him.
We are chased because we are alone, or in small groups. Yet I know that there are more loyal followers - Larry_OHF, Zoltan… I must talk to them! We must unite against this oppression! We will form a Sacred Band to worship our Goddess!
Looking around, Avatar saw Larry_OHF sitting at a table a short distance away, also alone, sadly staring at his mug of cider. His human friend seemed gloomy, running his fingers through his short dark hair. Avatar stood up and joined him. "Hard day?" he asked sympathetically. "Those annoying young hooligans!" Larry snapped, obviously angry. "Did they throw things at you too?" Avatar said, pointing at the fruit stain. Larry looked up and sighed. "I cannot believe that we are treated this way. I mean, some people support us and think that we should be allowed to believe in what we want, but they are the minority. Whenever I go to pay my respects to the Goddess, I am taunted and laughed at. But they have never thrown things before!" Avatar sat down in front of Larry, wondering on how to present his idea.
"You know, Larry…" he began. "The only times we are harrassed like that are when we are alone or in small groups. But when we are all together, for instance on our holy day
Mors Firkraagis, they may snigger behind our backs, but they do not dare attack us openly. Now this is my suggestion: let us unite, become one group! Like the HADB and the Order of the Holy Flame - all for one and one for all!" Larry looked at Avatar, stunned. "That is a very good idea, I cannot believe none of us has thought of that before! No one would treat us like this then. We could demand that these things stop in front of the Court of the Moderators, plead our case in front of the High Judge Ziroc." Avatar smiled, relieved that his friend thought his plan to be good. "I see Zoltan in a corner there, I will go ask him if he will join us. As a Priest of Aerie, he will know many of her followers." Larry left the table.
