Karen, my wifey, is going to UNC Greensboro, studying Nutrition.
Part of her classes include Bio-chemistry.
Her teacher was happy to tell the class that the studies in Bio-chemistry at UNCG have been able to place Vitamin A into rice, so that poorly nutritioned countries can have it. The rice grows with the Vitamin A already in it, and has a yellowish color. Supposedly, the poorer countries do not get enough Vitamin A.
They were able to plant a drug into a banana plant that will grow naturally in order to prevent certain diseases. Previously, this drug was very costly, and the poorer populations could not get vaccinated. Now, the drug can be found in the bananas, which are relatively cheap.
These breakthroughs in technology caught the attention of the Federal Govt., and last week the school received federal funding to provide a food supplement of whatever that will be naturally found in whtever is chosen as it's vessal, and is to be the curing aid for Anthrax. The school is very optimistic that they can provide a cure that will be found in the food eaten by animals and people.
