"You are back, Mistral." ~ The familiar calm voice greets her as she enters the room ~
"When did we last part? It was… eleven years ago, wasn't it? You've certainly grown." ~
She lifts her head to receive the impenetrable gaze of her former tutor. ~
"Yes, Matron Mother Ursula." ~ Her voice shakes a little ~
"I've come to seek a favour of you." ~
"A favour?" Ursula's eyebrows arch slightly ~
"What is it?" ~
"I seek to know where my home is. The Freelight home, that is." ~ Scrutinising Ursula's reaction, she continues ~
"You see, I've discovered my parentage. And since the Freelight home is my birthplace, I wish to… visit it." ~
Ursula watches her former pupil intently, her eyes narrowing. In the ensuing long pause, the room is completely silent. She then leans forward, staring at Mistral with renewed interest. Aloud, she declares ~
"What makes you think I know where your home is? Remember, you were left here from the day you were born. No one wanted you back." ~
Taking a deep breath, Mistral replies ~
"I couldn't help noticing the flash of alarm that streaked across your face, Matron Mother. You taught me to look out for such signs, naturally… and I'm inclined to think that my father must have come to you on his last trip to discover my whereabouts. I'm also willing to wager that he left his family address with you, just in case I did return to visit you." ~
~ In one of the rare moments of her life, Ursula bursts into genuine laughter ~
"Well done, Mistral! I'm glad that you've managed to retain your wits and temper. Come, take a seat beside me and we shall discuss this matter to your satisfaction…" ~
