I was nodding my head along, until I read that somebody thinks Illusion spells does kind of suck.
*cough*
Mirror Image, Mislead, Project Image, etc... are hardly sucky spells.
Any Mage/Sorcerer worth his salt will endeavour to fully exploit these spells.
If you decide to go along with a Specialist Mage, and your aim is powergaming, choose the Conjurer. You will only lose out on Divination spells. Necromancer would be my choice for roleplay value.
