He has nice boots od Avoidance so ranged weapon has very little use - no use I would say.
My way to get rid of him (but without fancy Amnish helmets ;() is to set my party around him while he is approaching me. After little talk he turns hostile and ALL (including Xan with his sword) my guys are hitting. In such case he casts horror first, so I cast protection from fear and one other (Psalm?) protecive spell before our talk. Usually I disrupt his second spell and kill him before his third attempt.
