By gauntlet I take it that you mean the Spellhold Dungeon. Well, keep Imoen if you need a thief or a mage, or keep Viconia if you need a cleric. Anyway, you just tell them when you dismiss them that you will meet them somewhere else, and they will leave for somewhere else and not stay there.
