When making a long post (more than 1 paragraph), always highlight it CTRL+C to copy it to your clipboard just in case the server "burps" as it is so prone to do lately.
If it's a VERY long post, I'll copy it to Notepad or even Word (if I want to spellcheck).

Also, if I know the post is going to be extremely long, like 500+ words, I write in Notepad first, then transfer it over by copying and pasting. It is easier to 'debug' the post anyway, when seen in the larger window size of Notepad, especially when HTML is involved.
