It's only 'The Sorcerer's Stone' in the US. The original title was 'The Philosopher's Stone' but it was changed when the book was translated into american english (I kid you not)
. The dialogue in the english version of the film will be changed to reflect this whenever the stone is mentioned.
I've never read any of the books but keep meaning to. People of all ages find them interesting.
