Go to your control panel, check there to see if you have any kind of diagnostic programs. My compaq has Compaq Diagnostics there. I can click on that and then the Memory icon and it tells me what I have for memory on my machine including RAM.

You might also try C/NET to see if they have any free downloadable diagnostic programs.
