AIM is a pretty good messenger service, although the only thing I don't like is that you cannot see when someone is typing you a message like on MSN. But other than that, AIM is a good alternative service, my contact is Ladyzekke.

Btw, Yahoo Messenger is very reliable too, although the voice feature is not up to par
