The truth or trash thread had me thinking of 'real-life' stories
On Jan 28,1986 I was in 6th grade. Our regular classroom was flooded by a broken water pipe, so we were relocated to another classroom and allowed to have a 'free day'. Our teacher was sitting at his desk listening to his radio when all of a sudden he stood up and called for silence. My friend and I were playing chess and he asked "wonder what's up?" Without thinking and never even looking up from the board I stated "The space shuttle probably blew up"
I must have said it pretty loud, b/c everyone in the room got very silent and was now looking at me. I looked at my teacher, thinking I was in trouble (he really hated me, b/c I was a trouble maker), but instead I saw a look of something between astonishment and horror. He stood there for a couple of seconds and then turned up the radio. "73 seconds after lift-off, the Space Shuttle Challenger, on it's maiden voyage, has exploded"
Everyone of my classmates gasped, some started crying, and I felt a chill go through my body, as the impact of what I just did hit me.
I will never forget that day for the rest of my life!
