Virtually all of Eastern Europe was the Warsaw Pact. The Warsaw Pact was more of a military organization than a political one - it was basically the Soviet satellite states that acted as a buffer between the USSR and NATO. Other Communist nations that were not part of the Warsaw Pact were Cuba and some of the Marxist regimes in Africa.

Thinking about it now, I'm not sure if the 2nd World included China or not...I have a feeling that they (the economists that came up with this stuff) were thinking more of state-based industrial communist economies at the time - China would have been an agricultural-based economy back in the late 40s and early 50s.

I could be wrong though, it's been 10 years since I studied this.
