1. Turn the damn thing off, see that it is getting good ventilation, bring forward you vacumm cleaner, and clean it good. Make sure it doesn´t have a nested powercable, thats bad biz.
2. Check you´re guarnatee (sorry about that one), monitors are supposed to be able to run failsafe for hundreds of hours.. YOu can get a new if you´re one starts to burn..
3. If you´re afraid of it making bad noices hereafter, get a small tablefan for it. For your computer, get a better fan, or buy a insdie small fan, like one that can be placed in a PCI slot of your comp. One of thoose helped me get rid od a overheating graphics card..
Well some tips... And don´t turn the electricity off before it has cooled down...
