I'd say so. The NSW government run a state lottery that brings in heaps of revenue. Both Sydney and Melbourne have huge casinos and pokies have replace bands in many public bars
They are a blight on society IMHO! That was actually one of the very very very few times (twice???) I have placed a bet, so I am atypical the majority of Aussies in that regard. Most have a punt on the Melbourne Cup at least.
