If you are where I think you are, then there is a Beholder across the way with a number of his little sub-beholders(Gauths) right? After you give the answers and can cross the bridge, yeah.

There is a shield, I could be wrong but I think it is for sale either in the copper coronet or adventurers mart(Waukeens Promenade), not sure, but it provides protection against Beholder rays. Go back and get it. Also, since most of what Beholders hit you with is psychic attack, chaotic commands, bless, etc., will at least help. The main thing is you have to be strong enough, I got killed by them early on, and gave up. Then my whole party leveled up some more and I came back and buried them. But for now you can try the shield and some good defensive spells. Hope that helps...
