it actually is a straight-forward plug-in-the-attributes-you-want program. there are simply so many attributes available that the editor is inherently complex. you need WinBiff, too, so you can see how other items are done, and copy their effects to your own. I have done a bit of editing and always found the interface easy to use and not so horrible that it is discouraging.
Start off simple, and move your way up. don't make any brand-new items until you have edited a couple to see what the effect is.
