Im making this thread to discuss Combat Strategies and tips, so the people who cant can get an idea of how the people who can do it.
First of all, setup:
Make sure you go into the options and set:
Mouse Y-Axis Lock: ON
Mouse Y Inverse: ON
Mouse X/Y Sensitivity: 100/100
With those settings the game should generally feel a little more like an FPS..
Basics:
Never rush in head first! - Forget circle strafing or strafing in aggressively, the slow speed of strafing will not allow you to dominate your opponent(s) in a L337 manner, instead concentrate on defending and countering, *think your opponent to death*.
Block like you saw your grandma naked! - Even upon first encounter of an enemy get your gaurd up and analyse the enemies moves before attacking. Get used to quick blocking to become better at it, once you master it you can hack/hack/block-an-attack/hack/block-an-arrow.. etc.
Standard attacks - Take a moment to get comfortable with all of your standard attacks and combo's. Get used to switching from a thrust to a left slash, to a back slash. Also try to get used to thinking your combo through before executing it, most of the time the best thing to do is to attack once or twice let your opponent return then continue. *Beware the spin attack* If you dont know how to use it, it'l leave you as flat as a pancake after the enemy walks all over you.
Defensive Maneuvers:
Aggresive Blocking - Hold Block + Forward - The best way to initiate your combat, especially if theyre backed up by ranged attackers. Once you get in close enough you can then assume your attack pattern and execute.
Twist Blocking - Hold Block and Turn Left/Right - When fighting multiple opponents get used to blocking and twisting your character to block multiple attacks from different angles, this is crucial to fighting multiple enemies.
Dodge Rolling - Double Tap Left/Right - Not very useful vs melee enemies but extremely useuful to get out of the way of any incoming arrows, fireballs or ballista's.
Side Jump - Left/Right + Jump - Very useful for escaping and dodging attacks from single opponents, not to be abused against a mob though, dodging 1 foes attack can lead you into another foes attack.
Single Weapon Attacks:
High or Low attacks - Forward(Low-Thrust)/Back(High Chop) + Attack as the 2nd or 3rd attack in any chain of combo's - Either of these can be used intelligently to attack foes on a landscape, or tackle the smaller size enemy or even take a shot at a humanoid opponents legs when theyre blocking.
The Spin Attack - The 4th attack in any chain of combo's - *Not to be abused like a normal attack*, the spin attack is the 5th attack in any chain of combo's and is very hard to pull off correctly, but it can be done. When facing multiple enemies make sure you're keeping about 2 feet distance between all of them by the time you reach the 5th attack. When done correctly, this can really even the odds in a mob fight.
The Spin and Thrust Attack - The 4th attack in any chain of combo's in which you open with a Forward + Attack - Similar to the spin attack, this is what happens to the 4th attack in any chain of combo's when you open with a forward attack. It is relatively more useful than the Spin Attack for even if you hit nothing with the spin, the thrust does huge damage and can render some opponents dead in 1 hit depending on your character stats.
The Side-Jump Attack - Left/Right + Jump + Attack - A very nifty little attack that can get you out of a jam or allow you to counter-attack an opponent, its not easy to use but when timed correctly you jump in and out of the opponents view attacking them from the sides.
The Lunge Attack - Forward + Jump + Attack - A good opening attack to use if you want to do a lot of extra damage, dont rush in though, look for an opening to use it first.
Dual Weapon Attacks:
Still need to investigate this more, anyone wanna help out with this section?
