Supposedly most of the bugs have been patched now. I played it for a short while (by stealing my co-worker's laptop--even though I still don't admit to it!) when the first patch came out. It was playable but the worst problem was the slow down, especially later in the game when there was a lot happening all at once.
My thoughts on it was that it was pretty fun if you look at the fact that the game is supposed to be a short story based in a small area. It is not an "epic" like the Baldur's Gate games, but a scenario taking place in a small chunk of land. There is not much to the story, there are very few quests, and there are relatively few major characters, and the NPC's pretty much suck.
Some good parts to the game is that it is turn-based combat (combat, BTW, is very important in this game), you create 6 characters to play with, the 2D graphics are rather nice for the most part, they use 3.5 edition rules (if you like those rules--I personally still prefer the 2nd edition rules myself), and, from what I remember, the sound is fairly decent.
If you can get this game fairly cheaply and make sure that it is patched, you may want to give it a try.
Just to give you a fair warning though, I know of people who absolutly hated the game, as well as many who have loved it.
Hopefully this helps a little bit. Good luck!
