You will get the Singing Blade after you killed Pedro (The Borken Wheel quest). IMO, this game is awesome for sword wielding heroes. Extremely good swords can be obtained in the game, Noble's blade (The holy weapon quest, 1H sword), Singing Blade (The broken wheel quest, 2H sword) and Chaos Blade (Hidden item, 2H sword)

You can safely roam verdists and do all the quests there without ruining the main quest. If you are strong enough, head out to the dark forest.

The game is buggy, and it's all too easy to screw up a number of quests without realizing it. Fortunately, most of the quests are not related to the major storyline, so you won't mess that up. If you get DD, you'll want to visit the official site for the latest patch.
Actually, it is not buggy. It is the price to pay for an open ended game. If the developers had set limitation the scripts not to spoil quests, the game would not be that fun and player will probably be limited to fewer accessable areas to explore early in the game. IMO of course...
