nope, there's no way back into emerald island now.
your knight can grandmaster plate armour skill, thus it will be a waste to give him chain armour skill. only give 1 character 1 type of armour skill only.
I believe there's a little booklet in your cd casing that explain which skill you can grandmaster and so on.
