FFT is not really an RPG but more of a strategy/RPG. It's tied as the best game for ps1 with Chrono Cross IMO. FFT has an incredibly flexible character advancement system, a near infinite number of character and ability combinations, an almost infinite number of strategies to use, a wide array of equipment and one of the best storylines in any game ever. However, the storyline can be kind of hard to follow because it can at times take some time to advance the story and by then you've forgotten what happened 2 or 3 steps back which causes you to forget that important piece (most are important). The storyline is also very involved with treachery, backstabbing, and political manuevering going on constantly which in and of itself is very complicated so with the sometimes slow advancement it's easy to get confused. I have finally figured it out though... I think . But that is the only downfall. If you can keep track the story, it's an amazing game, if you can't it's still awesome. I've played through it 5 times I think, something close to that anyways.

As a side note, I believe Square is working on a FFT2 finally. Possibly one of the most anticipated sequels of all time... by me at least
