Everquest was an amazing game, never before a game make myself play for that long, but after a year, just before the first expansions come out, I realize that time it was taking for me was not worth the rewards of the game, RPG's are exponentially better when share with real people, but most MMORPG out there lose some of the pillars of a good role playing experience, like exploration, challenge and a good story.
In Everquest (at least the one I knew before expansions), after you get level 50 the only thing left was to kill the "top mobs" and getting the best gear, after clearing the 2 planes, the 2 dragons and completing your set of armor the only thing left was to do it again with a different class and race, and that its not as fun as before because you already knew all the places and secrets to know.
Expansions of the game give the promise of new lands and mobs, but those are mostly for those able to invest the huge amount of time needed to play, even if Everquest will be the kind of game for me when I retire, at this moment games without large time sinks are what I want, and even if the craving of interaction with real people in an RPG still hit hard, titles like NWN will do for new and (I hope) better experiences.
ps. EQ is the devil!!!! jk

but if you think its not good for you then stay away from it.
