Honestly, it depends on whether you are comfortable with range weapons... I don't like getting hit unless I am going to give it back threefold!
I do like melee, that is all you can do with a Paladin or Barbarian - but they do it well.
A lot depends on your playing style - but change of pace, I will try different ways to kill monsters just to see what it is like. Bahamut made great suggestions for your sorc... the mass destruction is SO helpful!
