You can sometimes find black soul gems as loot on the bodies of Necromancers.
There are four altars and they become apparent during the mages guild questline. You are required to visit one but the other three aren't essential. That said, my character doesn't want to finish the mages guild questline without cleansing these places first. I've found Wendelbek, can someone give me a rough pointer to the other two?
