Of course it is. But i don't trap just anyone's soul, it has to be at least a Dremora lord for me. I trap those to sell, and i keep the trapped souls of ascended sleepers and Golden Saints to enchant items. They are the only ones that are good enough for constant effect enchantments. most (all?) npc's / villagers are not valid targets for soul trap, and therefore you can't trap their souls. monsters / undead otoh...
