Oh I don't know - many a merchant has discovered that, after my assassin has paid a visit, several items have (eh-hem) 'dissappeared'. I also pickpocketed a certain 'code-book' and a key from a couple of folks when they weren't willing to hand them over.
For pickpocket to be any good though, you need to have your sneak skill at 50+..
