You may not be skilled enough or rested enough to cast perfectly. Depending on your skill, and the difficulty (cost to cast) of the spell, you have a percentage to cast successfully.

If you are trying to cast a fireball, what is your Destruction skill and your Wisdom?

What is you % to cast? You can see this in the spell list menu.

Fireball              5/100

Summon Scamp          20/40
[/QUOTE]The fireball costs 5 mana and is 100% successfull at full fatigue, while the Summon spell costs 20 mana and is only 40% successfull when fully rested. These %s go down when you are exhausted (low fatigue).

Other than that all you have to do is aim and cast. Whether the spell goes off is dependant on above.
