I used the hell out of the boots back when I was playing the game. I was a fighter though and my screen went completly black. I had to use the small screen in the upper left to nagivate, but it went a hell of a lot quicker than running. Plus I'd usually be levitated then put em on and haul a@# so I didn't have to worry about hitting mountains. Only problem was I had to stop every now and then because if I wasn't pointing straight when I put them on I might end up at about 10,000 feet when my levitated potion or spell ran off and be screwed. lol.
