You need an enchanted weapon to fight the ghosts that early in the game. your best bet is the sword of white woe, which you can find in one of the guardtowers in Balmora, you have to steal it though. There is one ring you can find in Seyda Neen, which has healing powers if i'm right. I really can't say which is the best fighter class, i chose to be a redguard scout, and i finished the game with him fairly easy.
