Umm... It does NOT replace anything.
In fact, it's an ugly yellow-orange bar that appear right above your own life-bar, but it does not replace your own.
Good thing, actually, as I would find it mighty annoying to know what my enemy could take while having no idea how close I was to death... ^_^
