The guide has chapters with:
A little help on character creation.
Basic weapon and armor stats (no stats for specials, though).
Alchemical information and what ingredients do.
Stats on creatures.
Maps of every section of the game world. Each map has numbered places with names of the places and brief descriptions.
There is a map with travel routes shown for silt striders, ships, and mage teleports.
Sections for:
Main Quests
Guild/Faction Quests
Miscellaneous Quests
Quests By Region
Quests By Theme
Romance Quests
Vampire Quests
And Other Quests That Don't Fit.
It is helpful if you get stuck, but has an enormous chance to spoil you.
Just the numbered map makes it worth it to me. Sometimes it is easy to lose your way in this game. The quest sections help if the quest giver doesn't give you enough info - it helps get you going in the right direction.
I find it useful while others have not. It is a comfort when you are hopelessly stuck...I hate getting bogged down because I missed something or didn't understand a quest (the Disappearance Of The Dwarfs Quest comes to mind).
That's my take on the book.
