Arwen,
I don't mean funny like an idiot. Nor was it read-the-manual irritated. It was those little pop-up windows during your "processing and release" phase.
No, funny like an idiot is when you download the NVIDIA drivers for your GeForce2 and FORGET TO INSTALL THEM. Then buy a GeForce4.
But it won't fit in your AGP slot (too long). So you buy a $180 Aluminum case to put the guts of your computer in.
Only the power supply isn't compatible with the case. (New form factor.) So you buy a new power supply, but the new power supplies aren't compatible with your motherboard.
At that point you're out about $700. Plus you bought a new sound system for your computer because your computer isn't compatible with DirectX 8.1 in the motherboard sound system. Add another $175 for the card + $200 for the speakers.
Now you're out over a $1000 and you still can't play the game. Then you realize YOU FORGOT TO INSTALL THE NEW DRIVERS. DUH!
The game works fine. Not in its full glory. But it's still pretty good looking and it works with only minor performance issues that can't be resolved away.
So what do you do?
Well if you're the idiot (which I am), you but an Intel D850MV motherboard, 512MB of ECC DDRRAM (expensive stuff that) and a new P4 processor, a ATA 133 HDD controller, a 60GB 7200 RPM HDD, a 40X CD-RW and some cool wrapped cables and neon lighting... And presto, you have a brand-new computer.
The cost of forgetting to INSTALL THE NEW DRIVERS. $2000+ Plus much loss of face around the house. Wifey has assumed temporary dominence until I refuse to put-out. ('Course, *I* got a new computer. Woohoo!)
No, when I poke fun or find something humorous, it's only because I've done the same thing. Only, I've probably done it to a far grander scale.
Otherwise, sincere Appologies for my boorish behavior.
